19 November 2008, 12:40 pm

Okay so I have no idea what we are doing in math anymore. Here are my questions.... 1. A man rows a boat 600 feet upstream against a constant current in 10 minutes. He then rows 210 feet downstream (with the same current) in 3 minutes. Find the speed of the current and the equivalent rate at which he can row in still water. Speed of current= ____________ ft/min Equivalent of rate rowing in still water = ______________ ft/min 2. A silversmith has two alloys, one containing 15% silver and the other 65% silver. How much of each should be melted and combined to obtain 100 grams of an alloy containing 50% silver? First alloy (15%)= _____________ g Second alloy (65%)= ____________ g 3. A man flies a small airplane from Fargo to Bismarck, North Dakota-a distance of 180 mi. Because he is flying into a head wind, the trip takes him 1 h 48 min. On the way back, the wind is still blowing at the same speed, so the return trip takes only 1 hour. What is his speed in still air, and how fast is the wind blowing? The speed of the plane is _____________ mi/hr The speed of the win is _______________mi/hr Sorry that is kind of a lot but just answer whatever you feel like. Thanks.... Read More »
